Happy Holidays!

I'll be taking off two weeks for the holidays, starting back up again in 2026... and in the meantime, here is something Latin to enjoy: a Gregorian chant version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! You can listen at Soundcloud, or press the orange play button below to listen to the music here in the blog:

Here are the Latin and English lyrics side by side:

Reno erat Rudolphus.
      A reindeer there was, Rudolph.

Nasum rubrum habebat.
      A red nose he had.

Si quando hunc videbas,
      If ever you saw him,

hunc candere tu dicas.
that it glows you would say.

Omnes tarandri alii
      All the other reindeer

semper hunc deridebant.
      always mocked him.

Cum misero Rudolpho
      With wretched Rudolph

in ludis non ludebant.
      in games they didn't play.

Sanctus Nicholas dixit
      St. Nicholas said

nocte nebulae:
      on a night of cloud:

Rudolphe, naso claro
      Rudolph, with your bright nose

nonne carrum tu duces?
      won't you lead my wagon?

Tum renones clamabant,
      Then the reindeer shouted,

Rudolphe, delectus es!
      Rudolph, you are cherished!

Cum naso rubro claro
      With (your) bright red nose

historia descendes!
in history, you will go down!

Alleluia.
      Alleluia.
